Répondre :

Bonjour,
Il suffit d’utiliser l’auxiliaire BE au prétérit (c’est à dire was lorsque le sujet est au singulier et were lorsqu’il est au pluriel) suivi d’un verbe+ing pour marquer une action qui a durée dans le temps. Par exemple « Thé Coles were playing chess ».
Bonne journée !

Bonjour,

Réponse :

The Coles were playing chess and Mrs Coles was winning.

Miss Green was writing a letter to her boyfriend.

Mr Spencer was reading a newspaper, he wasn’t smoking.

Reverend Wilder was drinking tea.

Mrs Travers was knitting and Mr Travers was smoking a cigare.

The Brooks weren’t reading.They were talking about Mr Harris.

« What was he doing? Why wasn’t he joining them in the room? »

Explications :

I-he-she-it + was + BV-ing

you-we-they were + BV-ing

wasn't = was not

weren't = were not
