My time at camp

Good-morning, Camp!
Ten-year-old Harry is spending a week at a summer camp in
the Adirondack mountains with his brother Randy.
1 "Good morning, Camp Awonjahela!"
"Good morning, Mr. G," all the campers sang in unison.
"Fun, friendship, adventure, and safety!" Mr G. shouted.
"One camp, one memory!" the campers yelled back.
5 I raised my eyebrows in surprise at the weird little chant,
but no one else seemed to mind.
"It's great to finally have everyone here with us," said Mr. G. [...]
"Today is going to be a fantastic day at Camp Awonjahela.
Swim tests will be this morning down at Lake Humphrey
10 for the girls' cabins and any remaining boys who were
late arriving. The annual tug of war is after lunch, and
throughout the rest of the day, we'll be rotating you through
some of the group competition categories like archery, rifle
range, crafts, outdoor cooking, karaoke, and boating.
15 Around us kids' faces lit up at the mention of the activities
they liked the best. [...]
"As the week progresses," said Mr G. "your counselors will
keep a tally of your scores. The girls' and boys' cabin with
the most points at the end of the week will be our camp
