The Titanic was the biggest ship in the world. They constructed her in Britain. She sailed out of Southampton on its first trip to New York in 1912. Many people did not believe it was possible to sink her.
Rich people stayed in wonderful cabins. They danced in the beautiful lounges and they used plates and glasses decorated with gold.
The poorer people did not have these beautiful things. They stayed in smaller cabins and they walked around the lower deck. They did not have the same luxuries and they laughed less.
Then on April 15th, it was very foggy. The ship crashed into an iceberg. They did not have many lifeboats and more than 1,500 people died.
